This Privacy Policy describes how the Orienta Chrome Extension (“we”, “our”, or “the extension”) handles user information and data. We are committed to protecting the privacy of all users, particularly students and educational users, by design.

Core Commitment: Orienta does not collect, track, or store personal data or student-submitted content on any external servers. All operations run locally on the user’s device.

1. Student Data Protection & Local Storage

Orienta is built around strict data minimization principles:

No External Content Storage: Any text or content entered into Orienta by students or teachers is processed locally and stored exclusively on the user’s local device using chrome.storage.local. No written content or generated reports are ever uploaded, saved, or retained on any external database or server owned by Orienta.
Zero Data Collection: We do not monitor, track, or aggregate the content of students’ written work.

2. User Accounts, Credentials, and Identification

To ensure maximum privacy and security:

No Registration Required: Orienta does not require users to create an account, sign in, or provide any credentials (such as names, email addresses, or phone numbers).
Anonymity by Design: We do not know, collect, or record the identity of any student or user. There is no identity tracking, user profiling, or fingerprinting.
Protection of Minors: Because no account creation exists and no personal data is collected, Orienta fully complies with child privacy standards. No personal identifiable information (PII) of minors is ever requested, handled, or exposed.

3. Security & Resilience Against Malicious Attacks

Because Orienta operates under a zero-data-retention model on the server side, there are no central databases or user records maintained. Consequently, in the event of any potential server breach or external security incident, there is no student or minor data that malicious actors could compromise, access, or obtain, as no such data exists on external infrastructure.

4. Use of Third-Party AI Services

Orienta utilizes the DeepSeek API exclusively to process user-provided prompts and generate educational suggestions and rubrics. When a request is triggered by the user, the prompt text is securely sent directly to the DeepSeek API endpoint. This transmission is strictly limited to generating AI suggestions on demand and is governed by DeepSeek’s data usage policies.

5. Local Permissions Used

storage: Used solely via chrome.storage.local to preserve user preferences (such as selected educational grade levels) on the user’s browser between sessions.
host_permissions ([https://api.deepseek.com/](https://api.deepseek.com/)*): Used solely to send requests directly to the DeepSeek API endpoint for AI analysis.
